3Edit Web Builder iconCodex app

Codex in a visual desktop app.

Use Codex in 3Edit, a desktop app for Mac and Windows, on your own ChatGPT plan. Chat to build websites and web apps, with no terminal and no API keys.

The official Codex, on your own plan.

3Edit has its own built-in AI agent, and using your own Claude Code or Codex is an optional extra: 3Edit runs the official Claude Code and Codex command-line apps (the CLI) on your own monthly plan, not the API, so there are no API keys and no per-token API bill. There is no 3Edit Agent charge when you build with them. Works on every 3Edit plan, including the 7-day free trial. Media features such as images, video and voice use their own credits. You sign in with your own ChatGPT account.

Chat, not the terminal.

Codex is an excellent coding agent, and 3Edit is the whole app around it. No terminal: you chat, and watch your site in a live preview, with Codex doing the work. Node.js is built into the app, and 3Edit installs Claude Code or Codex for you if you choose them. They are optional, and new projects start on the 3Edit Agent. GitHub connect works without installing Git, and there is no repository to clone, no environment files to create and no GPU or Node.js setup.

You can switch between Claude Code, Codex, the 3Edit Agent and 3Edit Node at any time from the agent menu, and carry on in the same project.

A visual editor and your own accounts.

Edit visually as well as by chatting. When you want a database, sign in to Supabase and approve 3Edit. Approve the 3Edit GitHub app and every saved version can be pushed automatically. Publish to your own Vercel in one click, or to 3Edit hosting with your own domain. Projects are standard Next.js, and you can download the complete project whenever your plan is active. Secret keys are left out of the download for safety, so you add them again wherever you host it.

Start from a full backend.

Starter kits give you a complete website with the backend already built: an online store with Print on demand, a restaurant with online ordering, and more. Install one in a click, then make it yours by chatting with Codex or the 3Edit Agent.

Creative apps, in the same app.

Every plan, the free trial too, includes the creative apps: Studio, Podcast, UGC / Ad, Design, Motion, Voice & Music, Image, Cinema, Upscaler, Presenter and Print on demand. The media you make with them uses your AI credits.

Which ChatGPT plans include Codex.

Codex is included in the ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise plans. Free and Go are meant for quick, lightweight coding tasks.

Checked on 26 October 2026, on Codex’s own website: Codex pricing. Your 3Edit plan is separate: see 3Edit pricing. Product names belong to their owners. 3Edit is an independent app.

Which one fits you?

Codex is an excellent tool on its own. Here is a plain guide.

When Codex alone is enough

  • You are a developer who is happy working in the terminal.
  • You already have your own setup for code, databases, hosting and publishing.
  • You only need a coding agent, not a whole app around it.

When 3Edit fits

  • You want to chat with Codex in a visual app instead of the terminal.
  • You want Codex installed and set up for you, with Node.js built in.
  • You want a visual editor, starter kits with a ready backend, and your own Supabase, GitHub and Vercel.
  • You want to switch between Claude Code, Codex, the 3Edit Agent and 3Edit Node in the same project.
  • You also make videos, designs, music or voice-overs in the same app.
